HIROSHIMA--Victims of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima were remembered on Aug. 6, the 66th anniversary of the world's first nuclear attack, with the floating of paper lanterns on the Motoyasugawa river near the Atomic Bomb Dome.

Nine of the paper lanterns used this year were made from paper recycled from paper cranes that have been sent to Hiroshima from around the world. The Hiroshima city government currently has in storage about 110 million paper cranes sent in from people both in Japan and abroad. City officials are considering effective ways to use the large number of paper cranes.
