BANGKOK--A photo exhibition on the destruction and misery caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake nearly a year ago opened here on March 5

About 60 pictures taken by Asahi Shimbun photographers and others attracted shoppers and tourists to the “Great East Japan Earthquake Exhibition” held at the Central World shopping mall in Bangkok until March 14. March 11 is the first anniversary of the disaster.

Ruthapol Srivilas, a 23-year-old local newspaper reporter, said his heart was torn apart by the tragedy inflicted on the Japanese people. He said he was moved by the photos showing people in Japan helping each other.

The photo exhibition, sponsored by Mitsubishi Corp. and The Asahi Shimbun, will also be held in Jakarta from March 10 to 18 and in Seoul from March 12 to 20.
