BEIJING -- Nissan Motor Co. has opened a new China-based design studio that it hopes will produce cars for the mass-market within three years.
"Nissan Design China" employs about 20 members of staff, most of whom are Chinese.
The average age of designers working at its Beijing studio, who make up about one-third of the staff, is in the late 20s, a younger age profile than its studios in Japan, the United States and Britain.
Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president of Nissan, said at an Oct.12 news conference in Beijing: "We hope we will market cars we design here in two or three years."
