BEIJING--Fallen politician Bo Xilai has started procedures to appeal a court decision that found him guilty of corruption and sentenced him to life in prison, a source in the case said Sept. 23.

“The sentence is unfair, and there’s no grain of truth in it at all,” Bo shouted when he was taken out of the Jinan Intermediate People’s Court in Shandong province on Sept. 22, according to the source.

The court, the equivalent of a district court in Japan, convicted Bo, 64, of bribery, embezzlement and abuse of power.

Before his trial, Bo was dismissed as secretary of the Chongqing municipal Communist Party committee.

He has insisted that he is the victim of a political struggle.

The court accepted almost all of the prosecutors’ claims and rejected Bo’s argument that his wife and subordinates were forced to provide damaging evidence.
