WASHINGTON -- The U.S., South Korea and Japan will hold joint talks in Seoul next week on North Korea.

The State Department says U.S. envoy on North Korea, Glyn Davies, will arrive on May 20 for bilateral discussions with his South Korean counterpart Lim Sung-nam and National Security Advisor Chun Yung-woo.

Japan will join for a trilateral dialogue on May 21. Its delegation will be led by senior Foreign Ministry director-general for Asian and Oceanian Affairs, Shinsuke Sugiyama.

The department says the talks on North Korea and a wide range of regional and global issues reflect close cooperation three allies.

The meeting comes amid concern that North Korea is preparing a nuclear test after a failed long-range rocket launch last month.
