In a sure sign that summer is here, cruises offering spectacular nighttime views of Tokyo Bay are in full swing.
Marking the start of the summertime cruise services July 2, a boat packed with some 1,000 sightseers left Takeshiba pier at 7:15 p.m. Many passengers donned light cotton printed yukata.
The cruise lasted about two hours and took in scenic spots such as Odaiba and Tokyo Gate Bridge.
This year, the newly constructed 634-meter Tokyo Skytree, the world's tallest freestanding broadcasting tower, offers an added attraction.
Many sightseers said they were glad of the opportunity to experience cool breezes.
“I am still doing without air conditioning at home this year,” said a 22-year-old woman from Tokyo’s Arakawa Ward.
