OSAKA--A novel bra vending machine in a commercial complex here has been catching the eyes of passers-by over the past few weeks.

It was installed in November for a limited time only by Une Nana Cool Corp., a Wacoal Corp. subsidiary, on the first floor of Tennoji Mio Plaza building in the city’s Tennoji Ward. The idea was to make it more convenient for women to buy its new wireless bras.

According to the company, the bras are more comfortable to put on and easier to select than the wired version.

But the machine did not prove a big hit, selling only seven through Dec. 20, at about 3,000 yen ($29) each.

An official with the company said that nevertheless, many women have noticed the machine and peeked into it.

“It must be something that takes time to get used to, but I would like women to see how it feels to buy a bra from a vending machine,” the official said.

The vending machine will be in operation until Dec. 29.
