With anime and other Japanese products already winning converts around the world, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is betting that "Cool Japan" items will become the next hot thing in India.
The trade ministry plans to promote exports of anime and Japanese foods, fashion and other cultural items in India under its "Cool Japan" project.
It is seeking companies to join the effort, including production companies putting out new animation, through Oct. 28.
If chosen, these firms will be asked to develop anime and related stationery items and toys by the end of November.
The trade ministry also plans to exhibit animation works and related products in Mumbai in early December and will show the anime at schools in and around the city.
The government plans to hold a Cool Japan Exhibition in Mumbai in March 2012 as part of the programs to commemorate the 60th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
