Toyota Motor Corp. announced on June 14 that it has appointed its first outside board members with approval at its general shareholders meeting on the same day.
The leading automaker appointed three outsiders--Ikuo Uno, executive adviser of Nippon Life Insurance Co.; Haruhiko Kato, president of Japan Securities Depository Center and former commissioner of the National Tax Agency; and Mark T. Hogan, former General Motors Corp. group vice president.
Toyota also appointed Vice Chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada to chairman, replacing Fujio Cho, who became an honorary chairman. President Akio Toyoda retains his post.
