Toyota Motor Corp. said it will screen "PES: Peace Eco Smile," a promotional animated series created in collaboration with a leading anime studio, on June 29 at the Anime Expo 2012.
The "PES" anime was produced by Studio 4°C. The company is known at home and abroad for a number of high-quality anime titles, including Katsuhiro Otomo's "Memories," Masaaki Yuasa's "Mind Game" and Michael Arias' "Tekkonkinkreet."
"PES" is a short anime series whose theme is "to love people."
Making its debut in 1992 in Los Angeles, the Anime Expo is the largest convention in North America focusing on Japanese anime, manga, music and other forms of pop culture. The event annually attracts more than 100,000 visitors. It is scheduled to run from June 29 to July 2 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Toyota attracted attention when it supported a "live" concert featuring virtual singing idol Hatsune Miku as a sponsor at the expo last year, bringing in about additional 5,000 fans.
The automaker will set up a special booth at the venue to screen the first three episodes and a special "making-of" clip of the anime.
Toyota has already begun a worldwide advertising campaign based on the world of "PES." A special teaser will air on the Catsuka cable television network in France.
The exclusive "PES" website is currently streaming the anime, in addition to offering production information on the characters, story setting, voice cast members, musical artists and other members responsible for the anime series.
Screenings and other events are also under way in Tokyo and elsewhere.
