Get dreaming. An international celebration of Japanese pop culture is holding a competition for graphic artists and fans of J-art.
The Polymanga convention, held each year in Lausanne, Switzerland, offers return flights for the best picture inspired by the quirky title "My last cat drawing before the end of the world."
A budding Botticelli or Braque might skip this one, but the competition will surely appeal to devotees of Japan's other-worldly manga and anime.
Polymanga was first held in 2005. It celebrates all aspects of Japanese pop culture, including cosplay fancy-dress outfits and video game design. Last year, the festival drew 20,000 visitors to the city of Lausanne.
Prizes will be determined by nine juries of experts. An additional virtual jury comprises the number of "like" votes cast by Internet users on Polymanga's Facebook fan page.
There are few rules, but the image must be original, unpublished, and the work of a single artist. Fan art and explicitly pornographic images are banned. Erotic themes may be accepted, at the panel's discretion. Entries must be A4 in size, and printable at 300 dpi resolution. The work must include somehow the words "Polymanga 2013." Entries must be received by midnight on Nov. 1.
Competition winners will have their day when the convention opens, March 28 to April 4, 2013.
