"Hanafuda" traditional Japanese playing cards featuring characters and scenes from Studio Ghibli Inc.'s "Spirited Away" are now available, its distributor Movic Co. said.
Each set contains 48 cards.
The critically-acclaimed anime, one of the major works by Hayao Miyazaki, was released in 2001.
It is the highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history. It won the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival and an Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards. It also won many awards at home.
The playing cards show the world of the anime whose story takes places in a large bathhouse. The whole set can also be enjoyed as a work of art.
Staff members at Studio Ghibli and Movic took an uncompromising approach to recreate the memorable scenes from the anime.
Featured in one of the cards is a scene in which Chihiro is deprived of her name by Yubaba.
The regular edition is priced at 3,150 yen ($40).
For the deluxe version, all 48 cards are displayed in an acrylic plate frame so they can be viewed together.
The collector's item also comes with a certificate with comments from Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki. It is priced at 16,800 yen.
