A fully voiced car navigation device inspired by the popular "Neon Genesis Evangelion" animated TV series is now available at online shopping sites.
Priced at 39,800 yen ($498), the Evangelion Portable Navi device is powered by the latest maps, and users can watch and record TV programs, play music, video and view photos on the device.
It also features designs based on the anime series and gives spoken instructions provided by the anime's voice cast members including Megumi Ogata, who plays Shinji Ikari, Megumi Hayashibara (Rei Ayanami), Yuko Miyamura (Asuka Shikinami Langley), Kotono Mitsuishi (Misato Katsuragi), Miki Nagasawa (Maya Ibuki) and Akira Ishida (Kaworu Nagisa).
In addition to the regular mode, the navigation system runs on the "NERV" and "Pilot" modes to enhance the immediacy of the anime's world.
When the system is set in the NERV mode, voice instructions are given by Maya, a computer operator working for the NERV organization. Misato, Shinji, Rei and Asuka navigate the driver when the device is running in the Pilot mode.
It also boasts the "Evangelion"-inspired interface, featuring a font used in the anime series for the menu screen, buttons and geographical names. Inspired by a NERV-issued property, the device features the NERV logo printed at the back and on the mount unit.
Online orders for the Evangelion Portable Navi are accepted at the Nittele Shop online shopping site and at Evangelion Store's website.
The latest offering adds to the list of more than 10,000 items related to the anime.
The latest feature film adaptation, "Evangelion: 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo," will be released this fall.
