"The Wolf Children, Ame and Yuki," the latest animated feature from director Mamoru Hosoda, will be released in France on Aug. 29, about one month after it hits theaters in Japan.

It is rare for a Japanese feature film to be released in Europe immediately following its Japan premiere, which falls July 21.

A special premiere event is scheduled to be held in Paris. Details will be announced later.

Also, an exhibition devoted to Hosoda's artwork will be held at Paris gallery Arludik, which has specialized in works of animation and manga since 2004. The event will be held from June 26 to July 21.

Background artwork, photos and original illustrations from "The Wolf Children, Ame and Yuki," as well as Hosoda's two previous works, "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and "Summer Wars," will be available for sale.

Hosoda, who has received worldwide acclaim for his anime, is considered one of the front-running creators of the new generation in the Japanese anime industry.

"The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" won the Special Distinction for Feature Films at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France in 2007.

Hosoda went on to receive the Gertie Award for the best animated film at Spain's Sitges Film Festival with "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" in 2006 and again with "Summer Wars" in 2009.
