The official website of the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair 2012 is appealing to manga fans to come up with a name for its mascot.
Entrants can submit one suggestion each through an online form on the fair’s website until June 29. The winner, to be be announced in mid-July, will receive an autograph of the designer of the mascot, Kosuke Fujishima.
Fujishima, creator of the "You're Under Arrest!" and "Ah! My Goddess" manga, is also known for providing character designs and illustrations for the "Sakura Wars" and "Tales" videogame series.
The Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair is the first large-scale convention of its type to be held in the Kansai region and will be held at the Miyakomesse complex from Sept. 21-23.
It is aimed at encouraging manga and anime content businesses in the Kansai region, encouraging young talent, and connecting business operators in the Tokyo metropolitan area with the area’s creatives.
Mayu Watanabe, a member of the all-girl idol group AKB48, will serve as an official supporter for the fair, whose logo was designed by film director Keita Amemiya.
Female pop group Milky Holmes will perform at a special concert on Sept. 22, with voice actress and singer Nana Mizuki taking the stage the following day.
