ANIME NEWS: Second official Evangelion shop in Hakone to combine traditional Japanese taste

A second official "Neon Genesis Evangelion"-themed shop is set to open on July 14 in Hakone, a major hot spring resort in Kanagawa Prefecture.

Named Eva-ya, it will be far different in taste from the first official shop, the Evangelion Store Tokyo-01, which opened in November 2011 in the capital's hip Harajuku district.

Eva-ya will focus on Japanese tradition.

Located on the first floor of Hakone Tozan Railway Co.'s Hakone-Yumoto Station, Eva-ya will feature tiled eaves found in old-style Japanese homes and shops.

The facade and interior will have an old-world feeling in keeping with Hakone's rich natural scenery and historic sites.

In addition to regular Evangelion-related items, the Eva-ya will offer exclusive products: traditional sweets, teacups, wood plates and netsuke with designs inspired by the robot action anime series.

Hakone attracts many Evangelion fans because the area is depicted in one of the episodes where a crucial battle occurs. For that reason, the anime has been used to promote tourism in Hakone.

The new shop is certain to give momentum to the fall release of "Evangelion: 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo," the third installment in the four-part film reboot series.
