ANIME NEWS: Japan Media Arts Festival now accepting entries

Entries for the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival are now being accepted through Sept. 20.

Hosted by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the festival recognizes works of excellence in the art, entertainment, animation and manga divisions to give much-deserved exposure to these areas and raise their profile.

Winners of the Grand Prize, Excellence Awards and New Face Awards in each division, in addition to Jury Selection works, will be announced in mid-December.

An exhibition of the winning works will be held on Feb. 13-24 at the National Art Center in Tokyo's Roppongi district and elsewhere.

Professional and amateur creators can submit their pieces for the festival, which accepts works of any genre from across the world.

A total of 2,714 works were submitted from 57 countries and regions last year.

The festival's official website is also accepting information on promising works of media arts until Aug. 23.

The names of the jury panel were also announced. The jury panel for the animation division includes anime directors Mamoru Oshii and Gisaburo Sugii; anime critic Ryusuke Hikawa; animation artist Taku Furukawa; and Toshikatsu Wada, an animation artist and special instructor at Tokyo Zokei University.

The jury panel for the manga division includes manga artist and Kyoto Seika University professor Keiko Takemiya; manga artist Taro Mimamoto; manga critic and Tokyo Polytechnic University associate professor Go Ito' editor and manga researcher Nobuhiko Saito; and manga researcher Tomoko Yamada.
