Established in 1988 in the French industrial city of Valenciennes, the Supinfocom computer graphics school has gone on to become one of the top CG animation universities in the world.
A TV documentary by satellite broadcaster WOWOW Inc. has examed the rise of Supinfocom. The program was broadcast in August on WOWOW Prime with singer and voice actress Nana Mizuki as narrator.
In its short existence, Supinfocom has produced many top-class animation creators and made its presence felt in the international animation community. It has won several nominations at the Academy Awards and worked on Hollywood blockbusters such as "Cars 2" and "Avatar."
The documentary follows the history of the school and shows how students from various places and backgrounds strenuously work on their submissions for international competitions and graduation projects.
"I was reminded of how much France is passionate about animation," Mizuki said in a statement. Mizuki also said she felt honored when she was invited to take part in Japan Expo, an annual convention held in France dedicated to Japanese pop culture. She often gets fan letters from France, she added.
"Supinfocom students also learn how to share their opinions and experiences, and communicate with others," Mizuki added. "It's not good to have talented students just working on their own."
