A limited-edition figure of fictional character Rei Ayanami from the "Evangelion" anime series will be released in November to celebrate the first anniversary of the opening of the Evangelion Store Tokyo-01.
The shop opened Nov. 23, 2011, in Tokyo's Harajuku district to offer exclusive and stylish products inspired by the hit anime series. The store quickly gained widespread support from long-time fans and newcomers.
The Evangelion Store Tokyo-01 also serves as an information hub for the anime. It hosts various events to promote the four-part rebooted "Evangelion" film series, the third of which is slated to hit cinemas nationwide this fall.
Priced at 4,800 yen ($61), the special Rei Ayanami figure is based on an illustration released when the store opened. It was drawn by Takeshi Honda, a leading animator also involved in the new film series.
The limited-edition figure was developed in collaboration with leading manufacturer Kotobukiya Co. and sculpting company M.I.C. Corp. The two companies have produced many high-quality Evangelion figurines.
Rei's suit will come in pearl color, with the base of the figurine bearing the logo of the store.
Orders are currently being taken at the Harajuku store and the Evangelion Store online shopping site at (www.evastore.jp/pc/).
