The Disney Fantasy Shop is to offer for sale through its website a special traditional Japanese "osechi" New Year's feast package honoring 110 years since the birth of Walt Disney.
Priced at 32,800 yen ($418.50) including tax, the sumptuous meal will come in a four-tiered box wrapped in a special "furoshiki" cloth. The cloth will feature popular Disney characters such as Pooh, Alice, Bambi, Dumbo and Pinocchio.
The menu is supervised by Ikuta, a venerable restaurant in Kyoto's Okazaki area. This year it won a one-star rating in the Osaka-Kyoto edition of the Michelin Guide.
Traditional food items inside will include fish cake and "kurikinton" mashed sweet potatoes with sweetened chestnut formed in the shape of Mickey Mouse's head.
The fourth tier is intended to appeal to children, who will find Mickey's head-shaped meat patties and gratin served in a Mickey-themed pottery bowl.
The Disney Fantasy Shop website, which has more than 30,000 items for sale, also offers regular New Year food treats. Since 2007, it has offered regular multi-tiered osechi in boxes featuring Disney characters.
The Disney osechi boxes will be delivered frozen and intended to be eaten by Jan. 31.
Orders will be accepted at (http://www.bellemaison.jp/disney/osechi/index.html) until 5 p.m. on Dec. 20 Japan time, and the meals will be delivered on either Dec. 29 or 30.
