PHOTO/ Gundam robot goes into action in Tokyo's Odaiba

April 17, 2012

A “life-size” Mobile Suit Gundam robot has emerged in Tokyo's Odaiba district, standing guard at the entrance of a theme park dedicated to the popular animation.

The media received a sneak preview of the 18-meter-tall robot on April 17, ahead of the opening of the Gundam Front Tokyo theme park on April 19.

A theme park official said the robot will turn its head from right to left and up and down and emit light from its body at certain times of a day.

Inside a planetarium-like dome in the park, computer graphics of the various mobile suits of the war machines will be displayed.

The park will feature other attractions for Gundam fans, including more than 1,000 Gundam plastic models created since 1980.
