Toyota Motor Corp. (TMC) announced that Sichuan FAW Toyota Motor Co. (SFTM), a vehicle manufacturing joint-venture company established by TMC and China FAW Group Corp. (FAW), held a ceremony on May 14 to mark the start of production of the Corolla sedan at SFTM’s new West Plant in Changchun, China.

The ceremony was attended by about 700 people including FAW Chairman Xu Jianyi, SFTM President Akio Kato, TMC Senior Managing Officer Hirofumi Muta and guests from the municipal and provincial governments.

“Toyota’s business in Changchun has experienced much growth thanks to everyone here in China," Muta said at the ceremony. "With the start of West Plant production, we intend to continue producing even better cars in China.”

Approximately 3.8 billion Chinese yuan (48.10 billion yen, or $601.3 million) was invested toward the start of production, along with the creation of 2,000 new jobs.
