Toyota Motor Corp. announced May 18 that Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama Inc. plans to increase engine-production capacity and begin production of the 3.5-liter V6 2GR engine in March 2014 to meet growing demand in North America.
Toyota Alabama plans to boost annual production capacity by 216,000 units solely for the 2GR, resulting in an increase of total engine capacity from 506,000 to 722,000 engines a year.
In addition to the creation of 125 new jobs, $80 million (6.34 billion yen)--including funds for the construction of a new building--will be invested toward the expansion.
The 2GR engines will be installed in such vehicles as the Highlander crossover SUV, and the Camry and Avalon sedans.
