BIZ BRIEF: Mitsubishi Corp. begins production in Indonesia's gas field

May 29, 2012

Japan Petroleum Exploration Co. (JAPEX) and Mitsubishi Corp. announced May 29 that Kangean Energy Indonesia Ltd., a wholly owned subsidary of Indonesia's Energi Mega Pratama Inc., started commercial production on May 26 in the offshore Terang gas field, located about 90 kilometers north of Bali.

JAPEX and Mitsubishi each hold a 25 percent investment in Energi Mega Pratama.

The Terang gas field, off Indonesia's East Java, is the core project in the Kangean PSC area. Development of this field has been promoted since January 2010.

Since then, the Floating Production Unit (FPU) has been completed--one of the few in the world used for offshore gas field development--and five production wells have been drilled. Also, an advanced sub-sea production system has been installed.

Gas volume from this field peaked at 300 million standard cubic feet per day, which is almost equivalent to the total daily natural gas production volume in Japan.
