BIZ BRIEF: Fujitsu tests temperature-sensing technology at Tohoku Electric

June 11, 2012

Fujitsu Ltd. said June 11 that a trial run of its technology has been completed to optimize air-conditioner power consumption at the datacenter of the Tohoku Electric Power Group.

The test, conducted with Tohoku Electric Power Co. and Tohoku Information Systems Co., involved a fine-grained, real-time temperature distribution visualization system, which employs optical fiber-based multipoint temperature-sensing technology developed by Fujitsu Laboratories, Fujitsu said.

The ability to visualize temperature distribution makes it possible to greatly improve the efficiency of the datacenter's air conditioning, thereby reducing annual power consumption by an expected 20 percent, equivalent to 350,000 kWh, or 120 tons of CO2 emissions, the company said.
