The former director-general of the Swedish Energy Agency will assume the top post of a natural energy foundation set up by Softbank Corp. CEO Masayoshi Son at a cost of 1 billion yen (about $13 million).
Tomas Kaberger, who quit the Swedish agency on Aug. 18, is scheduled to take up the position in early September.
Kaberger used to work as a manager of a bio-energy company.
The foundation asked Kaberger to head the organization because of his wide range of experience, international human networks and knowledge.
"Although Japan is facing big challenges, it has a strong power to overcome them. So, I accepted this job," Kaberger said.
