JAL-affiliated low-cost carrier appoints female CEO

October 12, 2011

Miyuki Suzuki, a former executive vice president at Japan Telecom Co., will become chief executive officer of Jetstar Japan, a low-cost carrier that will start domestic services next year.

Suzuki, 51, will assume the post on Dec. 1, the company said Oct. 11.

Jetstar Japan, set up by Japan Airlines Co., the Qantas Group of Australia and Mitsubishi Corp., apparently aims to draw on Suzuki's experience in the tightly regulated telecommunications industry. Regulations have also been tight in the aviation industry.

At Japan Telecom, which is now Softbank Telecom Corp., Suzuki supervised services targeting individual customers, including Internet access under the ODN brand.

Since 2006, she has served as president and other senior positions at KVH Co., a telecommunications and information technology services company.
