Sendai, Japan, April 7, 2012 -- Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) held a charity concert here today featuring the “Toyota Master Players, Wien” at the Izumity 21 cultural center in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. The concert was conducted as part of TMC’s social contribution efforts with the aim of providing recovery aid for the Great East Japan Earthquake.
A press conference held before the concert was attended by Miyagi Prefecture Governor Yoshihiro Murai, Art Director Peter Schmidl, and TMC Senior Managing Officer Shigeru Hayakawa, who oversees the company’s social contribution efforts.
At the press conference, Schmidl said, “Music has a power to change sad feelings to hope for life. We will make the best effort with you for the future in Tohoku.” and Hayakawa stated: “We want to use the three pillars of the automotive industry -- new businesses, new projects and social contribution -- to support the recovery of the Tohoku region in every way possible, based on our idea of making Japan’s future here in Tohoku.” Hayakawa also presented Murai with a certificate showing that the entire proceeds from the concert’s ticket sales had been donated to educational-assistance funds for children in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima Prefectures, many of whom lost parents to the disaster.
As a further extension of TMC’s social contribution activities, six orchestra members will visit and perform a concert tomorrow, April 8, at Ishinomaki-Nishi High School in Miyagi Prefecture.
Toyota is engaged in a wide range of activities, which it will continue going forward as part of its Kokoro Hakobu Project(*) initiative for disaster relief in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
Miyagi Prefecture-based Central Motor Co., Ltd. is currently the base for a range of initiatives that are coordinated with the regional community, including the establishment of a local procurement promotion center in Tohoku that aims to increase procurement from within the region, and the establishment of the Toyota East Japan Technical Skills Academy, an in-house training school.
(*) The Japanese words "kokoro hakobu", written in the Japanese kana syllabary in the below logo, mean "to carry (or deliver) one's heart". The logo also shows a heart over northeastern Japan.
