Mitsubishi Corporation to Sell Hitachi’s Cutting-Edge Dump Trucks to Chinese Major

-- Supporting Safe and Efficient Mining Operations --

August 15, 2012 -- Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) has agreed to sell dump trucks manufactured by Hitachi Construction Co., Ltd. (Hitachi Construction) to major Chinese mining company China Coal Pingshuo Coal Industry Co., Ltd. (Pigshuo Coal).

With an aim to support safe and efficient mining operations, MC will deliver 16 of Hitachi Construction's rigid dump trucks to China Coal Pingshuo Coal Industry Co., Ltd., each equipped with a state-of-the art drive system. This will be the first time MC has sold this type of dump truck in China.

Amidst the escalating global demand for energy and resources, mining companies all over the world are working hard to maintain production. They must be certain that their excavators, dump trucks, and other heavy equipment are operating at full capacity. Increasing the efficiency of their machinery, quickly replacing worn or damaged parts (after-sales service), and paying due attention to safety are serious issues.

The dump trucks MC will sell to Pingshuo Coal are manufactured by Hitachi Construction, but are equipped with a drive system developed by Hitachi Ltd. It is the same, advanced drive system that has been used to great success in railway operations around the world, including high-speed (bullet) trains. The system enables very precise speed control, and will help the dump truck drivers to more safely negotiate the steep slopes in coal fields.

This type of dump truck experiences little wear and tear and is easy to maintain, which should help Pingshuo Coal and other potential buyers to cut down on their maintenance expenses. MC is confident that the success of this order will lead to increased dump truck sales in the near future.

Having set China as one of its Strategic Regions under Midterm Corporate Strategy 2012, MC is working hard to develop businesses in China that will ultimately grow into future earnings pillars. MC has already established a solid track record in Japan’s construction machinery business, and is now hoping to branch out into the Chinese market as well. Target areas include leasing operations, rentals, after-sales services, and used equipment sales.
