DoCoMo unveils smartphone with transparent display

May 22, 2012

NTT DoCoMo Inc. unveiled a prototype smartphone on May 21 that has a transparent display.

The user’s hand can be seen behind app icons and other images through the 2.4-inch display.

Touch-panel functions are available on both the front and flip side.

NTT DoCoMo said it has yet to decide whether to put such products to practical use, but is considering using the technology for games and other functions.

The prototype will be shown at the Wireless Japan 2012 telecommunication technology exhibition that gets under way in Tokyo on May 30.
