Nissan Motor Co.’s new concept electric vehicle consumes far less power than its Leaf electric vehicle, company officials said Nov. 8.

The automaker plans to showcase the new vehicle at the Tokyo Motor Show 2013, which opens to the public Nov. 23.

The car features a triangular body that resembles a futuristic-looking glider when viewed from above. It contains a driver’s seat and two passenger seats in the back, and measures 4.2 meters long, 1.9 meters wide and 1.1 meters tall.

The aerodynamic design and the reduced weight of the vehicle give it greater energy efficiency than the currently available Leaf compact electric vehicle, Nissan officials said.

The company has not set a release date for the new model.
