Japanese officials stressed the importance of combining economic development with environmental protection at seminars on the fringe of the Rio+20 talks late June.
The Foreign Ministry and the Environment Ministry co-hosted the Japan Day Seminar on the sidelines of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro on June 20, while the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries hosted a separate seminar on June 22.
The sessions also discussed efforts following the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake to build a "society that coexists with nature."
