BASEBALL/ Ichiro Suzuki gets his 2,500th hit in MLB

PHOENIX -- Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners singled to lead off the game against the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2,500th hit of his Major League Baseball career on June 19.

Ichiro finished 4 for 5 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Mariners in their 12-9 win in 10 innings.

The 38-year-old Ichiro had 1,278 hits in nine seasons with the Orix Blue Wave of the Japanese Pacific League before joining the Mariners in 2001.

His 3,778 hits are the third-most among professional players in either country, seven more than Henry Aaron and trailing only Pete Rose (4,256) and Ty Cobb (4,191).
