SOCCER/ N. Korea allows just 10 journalists to cover match

November 03, 2011

North Korean authorities will permit only 10 journalists from Japan to cover a FIFA World Cup third-round qualifying match in Pyongyang, the Japan Football Association said Nov. 2.

The match between the Samurai Blue and the North Korean national team, known as the Chollima, will be played at Kim Il Sung Stadium on Nov. 15.

The North Korean side gave just six reporters and four cameramen the green light to accompany the Japan squad to the reclusive nation.

Kyodo News, two soccer magazines, J.League Photos and one freelance writer were selected to cover the match.

JFA's vice chairman, Kozo Tashima, said the Japan side has not received any explanation from the North Korean authorities on the limitations.

"We are asking (them) to increase the number," he said.
