SEOUL -- South Korean Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na says she will retire after she competes at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Kim told a news conference July 2 that she decided to continue skating because she knows she will regret quitting over pressure to repeat her past success.

The 21-year-old set a world record when she won Olympic gold at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver.

Whether and when she will retire has been the focus of intense media speculation in South Korea.

Kim says she also wants to become an International Olympic Committee athlete member.

Kim helped South Korea's winning Pyeongchang bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
