SAO PAULO -- The Brazilian Olympic Committee says boxing officials have turned down its request to review the result of the Olympic final in which a local fighter lost.

The committee had asked officials to analyze the 75kg division final in which Esquiva Florentino Falcao lost 14-13 to Japanese boxer Ryota Murata, but the International Boxing Association said Aug. 21 that there was not enough evidence to prompt a review.

The committee made the request after learning through Brazilian media that referee Mariusz Gorn of Poland told an official after the fight that he made a mistake and regretted giving Falcao a two-point penalty that eventually proved costly for the Brazilian.

The boxing association told the committee that the referee only showed sympathy for the Brazilian's loss but never implied he made a mistake.
