A: The Asahi Shimbun Company is our publisher. Its flagship daily newspaper is The Asahi Shimbun. Founded in 1879, The Asahi Shimbun is widely regarded as the nation's most respected daily Japanese-language newspaper. It has nearly 8 million subscribers. The Asahi Shimbun offers unparalleled coverage of Japan with head bureaus in 44 prefectures complemented by about 250 local bureaus nationwide and more than 30 bureaus overseas. It is arguably the most quoted newspaper outside of the country. Q: What is The Asahi Shimbun AJW?

A: AJW stands for Asia and Japan Watch. AJW is the English-language digital version of The Asahi Shimbun. The Asahi Shimbun intends to make AJW, a high-quality package of news, features and analysis, the daily “go-to” site for news about Japan and Asia for international readers. Its key sections comprise Behind the News, Economy, Cool Japan, Views, Asia, Sports, 3/11 Disaster in Japan, GLOBE and Special. What's New lists the most recent stories. Q: Are all articles on the AJW site paid content?

A: Nonsubscribers are allowed to access 10 full articles for free per month. If you want to read more, please sign up for a subscription.

Q: What kind of price plans are available?

A: Our regular subscription is a one-month deal with a fee of $23.96, which is automatically renewed. But we are currently offering a special discount “Commemorative” subscription for $11.96 per month. For more details, please click https://ajw.asahi.com/register.

Q: How do I sign up for a subscription to The Asahi Shimbun AJW?

A: Payment is accepted through PayPal. Please set up an account with PayPal before proceeding with the AJW.asahi.com subscription sign-up process. After you create your PayPal account, fill out the registration form here: https://ajw.asahi.com/register. (Hotmail users: Please add AJW.asahi.com (ajw.info@asahi.com) to your Contacts and check your junk mail folder if you don't see a registration response email from AJW in your inbox.) After your payment is confirmed, you can log right in. Companies and organizations in Japan interested in group subscriptions are invited to fill in this form and send it to us.

Q: What should I do if I can't remember my password?

Q: What are the payment arrangements?

A: Through PayPal. If you choose to sign up for a subscription, first set up an account to pay by credit card through PayPal.

Q: Can I cancel my subscription in the middle of a subscription contract?

A: Yes, you can. But we cannot refund the remaining portion of your subscription contract. Once you cancel your subscription, your subscription will be valid until the end of your current subscription month. A “subscription month” runs from the calendar day you subscribed until the calendar day before of the following month. For example, if you subscribed on May 5, then cancelled your subscription on May 16, your subscription month will end on June 4. If you delete your AJW account before that day, your subscription will end immediately.

Q: How do I cancel?

A: Log in to http://ajw.asahi.com. Click “Account Settings” at the top of the screen. Click “Payment Setting.” Click “Stop subscription - PayPal” and follow the steps to stop payments. After you cancel your PayPal payments, you may wish to delete your account. Return to “Account Settings” and click on “Delete my account” to delete your AJW account. This will stop your subscription immediately. You will no longer be able to log in to AJW once you delete your account.

Q: What are the terms applicable to my use of The Asahi Shimbun AJW website?

A: We have Terms of Use that you need to approve before you sign up for a subscription. We recommend you read the Terms before you proceed with the subscription process because they form a legally binding agreement between you and the Asahi Shimbun Company.

Q: Do you issue a newsletter for users?

A: We issue the “Best of The Asahi Shimbun AJW” newsletter every Friday, which lists headlines and article links to help users see what is on the site at a glance. The newsletter is for the asking. Nonsubscribers can sign up for it.
